After being moved in 1938 it became home to the mare, Bonnie, who produced one of the first champions of the Quarterhorse breed in Colorado. The barn was awarded "Historical Barn" status by "Historical Routt County" in 1996 and remains intact with its bronze plaque over the entrance.

The historical significance of the area includes major coal mining facilities, moving coal by rail to the western and midwest states, sheep and cattle ranching, farming and skiing! The valley's rich history is exhibited throughout "The Tread Of Pioneers" museum located in downtown Steamboat Springs. It starts with the Ute Indians who populated the area before the first pioneers arrived in 1875 to settle in this beautiful valley. Summers were sublime in this rich and fertile valley, but in the winter, skiing was a way of life for children and adults with the valley blanketed in 3 to 4 feet of snow. Kids went to school on skis almost twice the size of conventional skis today. In 1913 Norwegian Carl Howelson came to Steamboat and introduced ski jumping and skiing as recreation. Skiing became so popular it drew crowds of people traveling by train to watch the events and also to enjoy the health benefits of the many hot springs, for which Steamboat was known.
